Kevin McStay: Mayo Football All Star & RTE "Sunday Game" Analyst

The role of the football and hurling manager in the GAA has changed dramatically in the past decade. The modern manager must now direct a multiplicity of disciplines within his management group; two of the most important aspects of this management concern physical fitness and medical support.

As a former club and county manager my experience informs me that both areas are very often neglected by managers in their haste to get players playing. A solid foundation of core fitness allied to proper medical supervision is critical to the success of any group of players.

I have worked closely with Oisin O’Neill as part of the Roscommon Gaels senior football management team and found his service to be expert, timely and invaluable.

Oisin O’Neill runs Offaly Injury Clinic/Sports Recreation Ireland and can provide the following services:
  • Fitness Testing
  • Individual Fitness Training Programmes
  • Proactive Injury Rehabilitation and Management
  • Recovery Sessions
  • Advanced Flexibility
  • Provision of Ice Baths

During the season we availed of a structured team training weekend provided by Oisin through his twin company Sports Recreation Ireland. I found his 24/7 interaction with my players to be of huge benefit. With the added value of team building a natural by-product, these weekends played a vital part in our successes.

Oisin O’Neill is a proven winner, a self-starter and a vastly experienced hurler of note. I have no doubt you will find working with him and his team to be a most positive experience.

Kevin Mc Stay is a military officer and former Head of Sport with the Defence Forces. He is a former GAA All Star footballer with Mayo and has coached and managed club and county teams at all levels.

He presently writes a popular weekly sports column with "The Mayo News" provincial newspaper and is a monthly columnist with the GAA magazine "Hogan Stand".

Kevin is a regular contributor to Television and Radio sports programmes and is currently a Gaelic football analyst on the flagship RTE programme "The Sunday Game".

Damien Hayes: Portumna & Galway Hurler

2006 was a memorable year for me capturing all awards available to my club, Portumna.

  • Galway League
  • Galway Senior Championship
  • Connacht Senior Championship
  • All Ireland Senior Championship
  • Man of the Match in the County Final

To finish the year on a high I was priveliged to be selected on the Vodafone All Star Hurling Team.

Oisin worked with me as my personal physio for the year, planning my training programmes, recovery sessions and carrying out any physio I required. I regularly used his injury clinic and found the Ice Baths and Ifra-red Sauna to be huge assets in aiding my recovery times after matches and training.

Sean Treacy : Portumna Trainer 2006

In 2006 my club Portumna achieved the ultimate, wining the all Ireland club final. My role in this glorious victory was physical trainer. In this task I employed the services of Oisin O’Neill Offaly injury clinic/sports rec. Ireland. Together we devised a physical fitness programme incorporating advanced flexibility, core strength, toal speed, ball work and recovery sessions. It was decided that before the all Ireland semi final to gain an edge we needed to hold a team training camp, which was a huge success. This I believe along with our total commitment helped my team across the line in Croke Park St. Patricks Day 2006.
